Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology

This one-year course will equip lay people for ministry and leadership in the local church/workplace, as well as enhance personal growth. The training sessions, structure, and course timetable are designed to accommodate a wide range of student needs. Both part-time and full-time students will find the course not only challenging but convenient.

Students studying full-time may complete the Certificate IV in one year. However, it may also be completed over several years part-time, on campus or as a distance student. For those studying on campus, there are normally two student intakes per year, at the beginning of 1st Semester (February) and 2nd Semester (July).

The Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology covers the broad range of competencies identified as important to quality leadership at lay level within churches. Students can expect to learn from hands-on involvement in an extensive range of modules.

For the list of modules along with their brief descriptions click here. Training is not just done in the classroom, but involves practical ministry. You will be involved in real-life ministry, where you put into practice what you are being taught.

As a full-time student you can anticipate being involved in equivalent to 18-20 hours of class-based training per week, as well as 10-15 hours of study outside of the classroom. All modules have a "practical" component built directly into them. This means that you have the chance to put what you are learning "into practice". Your weekly study load includes training sessions and study time and practical application. It is important to take all this into consideration when planning your study load.

In addition to the above you will be required to:

  1. Place yourself under the direct discipling of a mentor chosen by yourself and agreed upon by CALAM Training
  2. Actively attend the worship services of your church, and participate in the ministry of your church.
  3. Be involved in an ongoing effort to make disciples.
  4. Participate in equivalent to a one week ministry field trip.

Entry to this qualification is not subject to conditions.

This qualification requires the application of theological knowledge with depth in some areas and a broad range of skills, and a wide range of tasks and roles in a variety of contexts, with complexity in the range and choices of actions required (AQF 4).
